Stampin' Celebration #59

It's October 1st, and that means it's time for another Stampin' Celebration challenge!  Once again we have another awesome inspiration piece.  Something I really liked about this one is all of the different textures. . . felt, ribbon, leather, wood. . . So as I went about making my projects I tried to add a lot of texture.

The colors I picked were Going Gray, Poppy Parade (a discontinued color), and Baja Breeze.   I used the Monster Munchies stamp set and put together a little Halloween party ensemble.  To start it off, here's the invitation

This is a simple pocket card.  This doesn't 'fold' anywhere though. . . it is two piece of 4 1/4" by 5 1/2" Going Gray card stock.  I scored one of them at a diagonal and then ran it through the Big Shot with the Houndstooth Embossing Folder.  I didn't glue either side of the pocket closed. The ribbon keeps the left side closed, and the right side of the pocket is open--making it easier to get the inside slider (with party info) in and out.

The cups are pretty simple.  I stamped with Going Gray ink, use a marker to color in the outside ring, added the googlie eyes and ribbon, and then adhered to the cup with dimensionals.

And last but not least, the plastic ware holder was made using the Petite Pocket die.  I just ran it through the Big Shot a second time with the Houndstooth Embossing Folder and then put it together as you usually would.

I used the Faux Suede technique on all of the Baja Breeze card stock I used in these projects--since I was going for lots of texture.  If you aren't familiar with this simple technique, you can see another sample and ready about it HERE.

Now it's your turn to be inspired and play along with us this month at Stampin' Celebration! You have until October 25th to create a card, 3D item, digital item, scrapbook layout, etc. using the inspiration piece above. Link your creation to the Stampin' Celebration blog so we can see your project. We will choose the "Pick of the Party" at the end of the month. We can't wait to see what Stampin' Celebration inspires you to create!

Happy News!

Don't you just love happy news? A little while back I found out that I won Stampin Up's July Art Contest in the Flutter by Butterfly category! I was so excited. :-) Not only did I get to choose any 3 stamp sets from the catalog, my project is published in Stampin Success--the monthly magazine for demonstrators. Since the magazine went online today, I thought I would share my project with you!

I actually made this project quite some time ago--shortly after I made this butterfly bag. As you can see the bag grew a little bit. :-) I wanted to create a bag that was made entirely of Top Note Die cuts, and this is what I came up with. All of the brown you see on the bag (handles, inside, butterfly) all use the faux suede technique. There is also a pocket on the inside.

Note:
I'm creating a tutorial for the bag that will be posted soon.

Ink: Chocolate Chip marker (for stitching detail)
Paper: Chocolate Chip, Pink Pirouette, Bella Birds DP, White Vellum paper
Accessories: Chocolate Chip corduroy buttons, Pretties Kit, dimensionals, Big Shot, Beautiful Butterflies die, Top Note die, thread

Suede Ovals

Today I have a quick card to show you using some of the new product from the Occasions Mini Catalog. I'm very excited about the new Mini Catalog as there are a lot of fun new products! Even better, during the month of April, if you purchase $40 of merchandise from the Mini Catalog, you can choose one of the 'Under $10' items from the catalog for free! See the flyer HERE.

I started this card by stamping with
Basic Gray ink using the new set Oval All. After punching out with the Large Oval Punch, I used a Cameo Coral marker to color the butterfly and then added Crystal Effects and Dazzling Diamonds Glitter. I used the new Scallop Oval Punch to layer the Cameo Coral scalloped oval. The oval is popped up on dimensionals.

The Baja Breeze layer shows the
Faux Suede technique. The faux suede technique is actually pretty easy to do . . . . I'll explain it quickly and hope that it makes sense! Take the strip of paper (here the Baja Breeze) and a bone folder. Use the bone folder to pull it along the paper as if you were curling ribbon. "Curl" the paper every which way. The idea is that you are breaking down the fibers in the paper. Then go to a corner of the paper and carefully peel the paper apart into two halves lengthwise--as if you are peeling a sticker from the backing. So the faux suede part is actually just the inside of the paper. You'll have to try it to see how simple it really is. :-) It is nice because it adds a soft feel to the project.

To finish the card I used the Mat Pack to add the row of paper piercing. Finished card size is 4 1/4" by 4 1/4".

Have a great weekend!
