Hello, Free Product, and Lacy Dress

Hi everyone!  I thought I would pop in, let you know what I've been up to, share one of the few cards I've stamped in the last 10 months, and offer some free product!  (Ok, and see if anyone still follows this blog, lol)

First I'll let you know where I've been. . . or rather where I am. . . in Jubail, Saudi Arabia!  Crazy, huh?  Our family relocated here with my husband's job last October (2013) and we plan on being here for a few more years.  It's been an interesting experience with ups and downs, although overall we are enjoying our time here and the opportunities that come with expat life.  I am adjusting to not driving and wearing an abaya, among other things.  If you are curious to learn more about our adventures in Saudi, you can check out my Winding My Way blog.

Now back to stamping!  I needed a wedding card, so I pulled out my stamping supplies and went to work.  It had been a long time since I had created anything, so I kept it pretty simple.  :-)

I used the Dress Up framelits for the dress as well as the dress layers.  The texture for the dress comes from the Lacy Brocade embossing folder.  I used the Ovals Collection framelits and coordinating Occasions paper-piercing pack for the Smoky Slate oval layer.  The sentiment is from the Curly Cute stamp set.  I made up a few cards to have on hand just playing around with different colors of ribbons and accessories.

Even though I am so far away, I will still be stamping!  It's taken me a little while to feel settled here, but I have committed to teaching stamping classes in my compound here starting this September.  (Of course it didn't help that 3 months after moving here we moved again to a different compound in the same city.)  So although I don't plan to post more than occasionally over the summer, I'll be back to regular stamping this fall.  :-)

Hearts all in a Row

Well now that I've started creating some Valentine's cards, I'm on a roll!  Several of these hearts were actually 'left overs' from the card I created earlier this week.  I saw the sketch challenge over at Hand Stamped Sentiments, and knew what I could use the hearts for.  :-)  

And the colors were taken from the Stampin' Celebration Challenge for January:  

I stamped the hearts using the Hearts a Flutter stamp set (found in the new Spring Catalog) and then ran them through the Big Shot with the coordinating Hearts a Flutter Framelits to cut them out. I also used the new Honeycomb Embossing Folder for the fun texture on the Pool Party layer.  

The gray hearts are covered in Dazzling Diamonds glitter--I used Multipurpose Adhesive Sheets to adhere the glitter.  The 'love' tag was stamped with the Lovely Little Labels stamp set and then punched out suing the Little Labels Punch pack.  I adhered the bow and the tags with glue dots--uncharacteristic to my 'usual', they aren't attached to each other.

Stampin' Celebration #57

It's already August 1st!  So that means it's time for a Stampin' Celebration challenge.  :-)  This month we have a beautiful inspiration piece.  I love this color combination--which is also a popular one for weddings this year.   

I used the colors along with my new Papillon Potpourri stamp set to create this card. I stamped the butterfly image with Basic Gray ink and then adhered Dazzling Diamonds glitter to the butterflies using Multipurpose Adhesive Sheets. (If you are new to that technique you can read more about it HERE and see more samples HERE and HERE.) 

Other new items this card shows off are the Fancy Fan Embossing Folder, the Apothecary Accents Framelits, and the Finishing Touches Edgelits. 

The sentiment is from the Lovely Little Labels set and punched out with the coordinating Little Labels Punch Pack.  This is an adorable little set, as long as you don't mind working with small things.  :-) 

And here is a coordinating 3X3 card that I used as thank yous for my Stampers Club's orders.  I also used the first card as a swap during convention for an organized 'Workshop Wow' swap.

Stampin' Celebration Inspiration Challenge

San Antonio Regionals--Part 3

Finally, the last of the samples I had made up for my presentation at the San Antonio Regional Workshop Wow/Demonstrator Booth portion of the day!  The third section of my presentation was showing how you could use Dazzling Diamonds and Multipurpose Adhesive Sheets to create backgrounds. 

 

So for this card, I used my 1" Circle Punch and the circle punch from the Itty Bitty Shapes Punch Pack to punch out circles from the Multipurpose Adhesive Sheet.  I used my bone folder to burnish the edges (making it easier to peel the back off) and peeled off the backing.  I face planted the sticky side of the adhesive sheet on top of the Whisper White card stock.  I repeated this with all the circles creating the desired pattern.  I used an Embossing Buddy to help cut down on static, and then peeled off the other side of the backing on all the circles.  I poured Dazzling Diamonds Glitter over the top and brush off any excess.  Now you have a fun sparkly background.  :-)

And of course the possibilities are endless if you change up the shapes, patterns, and colors of glitter!  

This card is 4 1/4" by 4 1/4" and also shows off the new Mouthwatering stamp set that is found in the new Occasions Mini Catalog and well as some of the 2011-2013 In Colors and coordinating accessories.

And here is another (Valentine, Anniversary, Wedding) sample I created for the display board.  For this card, I adhered the Multipurpose Adhesive Sheet to the Regal Rose card stock and then ran it through the Big Shot with the Simple Letters Dies to create the l, v, and e letters.  After they went through the Big Shot, then I peeled off the second side of the Adhesive Sheet and added the Dazzling Diamonds. 

To create the heart 'o' letter, I used the new Framelits Hearts Collection.  I used the two smallest hearts, lined them up on top of the Regal Rose card stock + Adhesive Sheet, with the smallest heart centered inside of the slightly larger heart.  Then I ran it through the Big Shot.  

For the base of the card, I used my Color Spritzer Tool and Regal Rose marker to add a little texture.  The 'you' tag uses the Fabulous Phrases stamp set and the Jewelry Tag punch. The letters are up on dimensionals.

Lots of Love Letters

Have you tried the Letterpres Plates yet?  They made their debut in the Holiday Mini last year, and a few more were introduced in the Occasions Mini Catalog--including the Lots of Love letterpress plate which I used here.  

I ran watercolor paper through the Big Shot with the Lots of Love plate.  For this card I didn't ink the plate before we ran it through--although you can do that.  For an example of what that looks like see THIS post. Unfortunately it's hard to have a photo pick up the texture and detail of the card, but you should be able to click on the picture to get a closer look. 

I gathered the 1 1/4" Real Red Striped Grosgrain ribbon and wrapped the prongs of the Antique Brad around to keep it in place.  The tag was made using the stamp set Tiny Tags.  For this card and sentiment I had a wedding card in mind, but I thought the design could also lend itself to an anniversary, wedding shower, or valentine's card.  I punched out the sentiment using the Medium Jewelry Tag punch and layered that on a heart from the Heart to Heart punch. 

A couple of hints when using the letterpress plates:  Although I didn't use any ink on this card with the letterpress plate, if you do want to add color craft inks do work better than the classic inks.  I needed to use a shim with my Big Shot (you may not need to with yours).  Also, a thicker paper gives you a crisper image and a deeper impression--Whisper White works ok, but water color paper or textured paper works better.

Scallop Circle Basket

As promised I'm back to share another Scallop Circle Basket!  If you missed the first one, you can see it HERE.  I really like the way that this one turned out.  I could see this being used as anything from a wedding favor, bridal shower favor, Valentine's gift, or just a gift to say thank you to a special friend.  

I used the Scallop Circle Die and my Big Shot to cut the two Blushing Bride scallop circles.  Next I ran each scallop circle through the Big Shot again with the Vintage Wallpaper Embossing Folder to give the texture.  After that I carefully scored and folded the circles and adhered them together.  The handle is kept in place with Very Vanilla 5/16" Jumbo Brads. 

For the tag, I stamped the sentiment with Early Espresso ink, and punched it out with the 1 3/4" by 7/8" oval punch.  I layered that onto a Blushing Bride Scallop Oval Punch and an Early Espresso Decorative Label Punch (found in the Occasions Mini Catalog on page 30).  The accent is one of the new Vintage Flower Adornments (page 15 of the Occasions Mini Catalog) and a little piece of Victoria Crochet Trim ribbon--all held together with glue dots.

Stampin' Celebration #40

I just love seeing all of the inspiration pieces week after week!  Now I don't usually love yellow, but the warm sunny feel of these pictures is great!  This week I took the inspiration piece quite literally:  

I loved the picture of the wedding cake, so I went to work recreating it with paper.  I pulled out my well-loved Baroque Motifs stamp set, and some of the new Daffodil Delight Pompom Trim from the Occasions Mini Catalog.  After I stamped with Daffodil Delight and stacked the cake, I added a few flowers with my punch from the Itty Bitty Shapes Punch Pack.  And of course some Rhinestone pearls provide a great finishing touch and some bling.  

The sentiment is from the set Teeny Tiny Wishes and was stamped with Versamark and heat embossed with White Stampin' Powder on Vellum card stock.  (Hint: If you are heat embossing, I would suggest using the Vellum card stock as opposed to the Vellum Paper as it holds up better under the heat.)

Stampin' Celebration #21

It's Thursday, so we have another great inspiration piece from Stampin' Celebration!  I love several of the pictures here, but I was intrigued by the bottom right photo and the ribbon/flower combination.  So you'll see I incorporated that concept into my project: 

I thought this could be a fun party favor for a baby shower, bridal shower, or wedding.  I used a Thick Window Sheet to create the box with my Big Shot and the Pillow Box Die.  I added the ribbon to the box using thin strips of Sticky Strip, and I overlapped the ribbon on the front of the box--where I knew the flower would cover everything.  

The only downside is that I realized (after adding all the ribbon) that this treat holder isn't very practical.  You'd either have to take off all the embellishing or cut the ribbon to actually eat the candy.  Opps!  

Next I wanted to add a ribbon flower.  At convention Carrie Cudney showed us how to make these pretty ribbon flowers.  She is an amazing presenter, and I loved her idea.  She actually cut all the scallops by hand when she made her flower, but now we have the new Tasteful Trim die which does all the work for us.  :-)  

So, I took a 13" piece of Pretty in Pink satin ribbon and ran it through the Big Shot with my Tasteful Trim die.  The next step is to take your Heat Tool and heat the ribbon.  It melts the ribbon just a bit, and 'crinkles' it.  Just be patient as you are doing this step as it takes about a minute of heating before you see any results.  The picture below shows the difference between before and after heating the ribbon.  

Next take a piece of Sticky Page (page 205 of the catalog) and run it through the Big Shot with the Circles #2 die.  For this flower I used the very smallest circle on that die.  I peeled off the backing, and then started adding the ribbon, with little tucks, to the Sticky Page circle.  

I kept doing that until I had reached the center of my circle.  

And now I have a fun embellishment to add to any project!  This was actually very quick--it took me much longer to write up the directions than it did to make the flower.  :-)  Now usually I'm not a fan of adding anything too bulky to my cards, but I wouldn't have a problem adding this to a card.  This little flower is more flat that it initially appears, and it is also lightweight.

Stampin' Celebration #19

It's already Thursday!  I can't believe how time flies!  I (again) love the fun inspiration piece over at Stampin' Celebration.  I was reminded of a wedding reception, so I went with a wedding/anniversary card.  I actually loved the red and yellow combination, but I couldn't quite get myself to put them together on the same wedding card.  So, I just went with Cherry Cobbler and Whisper White.  :) 

This is really a simple card using the set Paisley Prints from the Holiday Mini Catalog.  I stamped the heart image with Cherry Cobbler, and then added a little bit of Crystal Effects and Dazzling Diamonds to the heart for some sparkle.  The paisley heart is hand cut, and the Cherry Cobbler heart it is layered onto was punched using the Full Heart punch.  

The sentiment and '&' are from the set Fabulous Phrases.  I used the 'forever' stamp twice.  I stamped 'forever', then washed my stamp, and markered just the 'ever' part and stamped again.  Remember to look at words that can be found 'within' your sentiment stamps--just one way to get more use out of your stamps.  :)  

The finished card size is 3 1/2" by 4 1/2".

Paisley Wedding

I have another card to show you that uses the Paisley Prints stamp set that is from the Holiday Mini Catalog.  I just love how versatility of this stamp set!  I love that this could be a wedding, anniversary, or even Valentine's Day card. 

I started by running a piece of vellum card stock through the Big Shot with the Perfect Details texturz plate.  Then I added the sentiment--from the set Fabulous Phrases.   I stamped the sentiment and the hearts with Versamark ink and heat embossing with Silver Stampin' Emboss Powder. 

To finish the card I added the Whisper White Organza Ribbon and the Clear Rhinstone Brads.  The finished card size is 3" by 6".

Stampin' Celebration #16

This week over at Stampin' Celebration we are celebrating Anniversaries. How appropriate that my husband and I celebrated our 9th anniversary this week! In some ways it is hard to believe we've been married that long, and in other ways it seems like I've known my wonderful hubby forever. Either way time flies when you're having fun. :-)


So, here's the card I created for this week. It ended up being a little more simple than what I was planning, but everything I tried to add just didn't work. Anyway. . . . I've seen the idea to use the wing from the Two-Step Bird Punch to create a tulip, but until now I haven't actually tried it. The stem and leaves for my flower also come from that same punch.

The sentiment comes from one of my favorite word sets All Holidays. The colors I picked are Cherry Cobbler and Garden Green. For me Garden Green was kind of a pleasant surprise that came from the Color Renovation. I don't actually remember ever using Garden Green before, but I like the way that it coordinates with several of the new colors. So it's like another new color for me!

The card base is actually a thick Window Sheet. I ran the front of the card through the Big Shot with the Perfect Polka Dots Embossing Folder. I wanted to mimic the fun glasses from the inspiration piece. I adhered the Garden Green layer to the Widow Sheet with Sticky Strip, and then the White layers are all on the inside of the card (also adhered with Sticky Strip).

Stampin Celebration #10

What a great inspiration piece this week over at Stampin' Celebration! I think this may be one of my favorites to date! And how perfect that we are celebrating weddings. I decided to double-dip this week and not only create something for the challenge, but also design my sister's bridal shower invitations at the same time.

I chose Basic Black and Barely Banana for this week. I will use this same layout and design for my sister's invites, just change all of the black to Certainly Celery. This invitation is 3 3/4" by 8" and fits perfectly inside a standard size business type envelope. Part of the reason that chose this size invite is that I will be able to make all of them using scraps left over from the invitations. I will barely do any cutting (saving lots of time) and also not let all those paper scraps go to waste.

For the texture, I used the new Vintage Wallpaper Textured Embossing Folder. After I textured, I also sprayed with Vanilla Smooch Spritz giving it a nice shimmer.

I also wanted to make up some simple thank you notes that my sister can use after the shower. I took the design of the invitation and simplified a bit. The sentiment is from the new hostess set Because I Care, and is stamped with Basic Black Craft Ink and embossed with Clear Stampin' Emboss Powder. The finished card size is 3 1/2" by 5" and again I'm just using the paper scraps from the invites. And of course I'll also change the black to Certainly Celery to match her wedding colors.

Wedding Annoucements

As promised, here is a picture of my little sister's wedding invitations. This past weekend my mom and sister flew in to help make all of the invites. We didn't finish all 600 (nope, not a typo) but we made very good progress. We completely finished 300, and all of the cutting and hole punching for the others. We probably could have finished all of them, but we decided to take some time to have fun too. Can't have all work and no play. :-)

As we started making them, I was SO glad that my sister chose such a simple invite. She sent a picture of the style that she wanted and picked the colors (Barely Banana and Certainly Celery), so I didn't even really have to design anything, just order the paper and ribbon. :-) My mom even had all of the (embossed) printing done professionally so I didn't even have to worry about that.

I didn't think to take a picture of the progress of the invites until we were boxing them up. So here you go, one of the largest Stampin Up boxes, full to the top with invitations!


Now to make the invites for her bridal shower. . . .

Here's another card from the 10-10-10 class! This card uses the A Happy Heart set, which is another fun set we will be losing. I stamped this card as a Valentine's Day card, but I also thought it could work well as a wedding or anniversary card too.

I stamped the heart image on Shimmery White card stock which gives it just a little bit of sparkle. The idea for this card came from Sara over at Splitcoaststampers. You can see her card HERE. You'll notice I used her adorable layout, and then changed the stamp set and colors. Incidentally, she used the stamp set One of a Kind, which is also being discontinued at the end of June.

Always & Forever

Wedding cards are always hard for me to make, but when it is a fellow stamping friend who gets married, that makes it even harder. No pressure, right? :-) I chose the color So Saffron since it was one of her wedding colors. I'll definitely be trying this card again with different colors; I think pretty much any shade of pink or red would also make a gorgeous anniversary, valentines, or wedding card.

Anyway, here are some of the creative details: I stamped the heart from the set Always twice on Glossy White card stock using Versamark ink. I embossed both hearts with clear embossing powder. Next I sponged on So Saffron ink and then cut out both hearts--one outside of the dots, one along the line of the heart. The picture below shows how I used dimenionals between the two hearts.

I ran the white layer through the Big Shot using the Perfect Details texturz plate (my favorite texture plate!) and then tore along the edges. There are also dimensionals behind this layer. The ribbon is the 5/8" Whisper White satin ribbon. Finished card size is 5" by 5".

Polka Dot Elegance

Anyway, I don't often copy ideas exactly from other people, but this card was just so pretty that didn't want to change a thing! I first saw this card on the idea boards at the Stampin Up Leadership conference, and later found the creator. Dawn over at DOstamping with Dawn made this card for the leadership boards. You can see her card HERE.

You'll notice that I didn't change very much. The only minor modifications were that I used the new Taste of Textiles paper (the white pin stripe paper on the left) and the new Organza Ribbon on top of the Brushed Silver strip of paper.

Another quick note: I actually used Basic Black craft ink, and then embossed with the Silver Embossing Powder. As long as you work fairly quickly, the silver embossing powder does cover the Basic Black craft ink. I used the black ink because when I was stamping the hearts for the panel along the right side, I started using Versamark ink, and was having a hard time seeing where to stamp! I didn't have that problem with the black ink. :-)


I also made up a coordinating acetate box. This could be used as a wedding favor, bridal shower favor, or as part of a wedding gift. The box shows off how pretty the Organza Ribbon is! Wedding Happiness

Here's a card that was one of the projects we made a my Technique Club class this past week. It uses the Heard From the Heart set--another one of the sets 15% off until the end of Sept! I thought the sentiment "wishing you happiness today and always" sounded perfect for a wedding card, so I set out to design something appropriate. I must admit that wedding cards have always been very hard for me, but hopefully this one turned out ok.

The base is Very Vanilla card stock (finished size 3" by 6 1/2") and then layered with Pink Pirouette card stock, designer paper, and last vellum card stock. The Designer Paper is from the Parisian Summer set, and then the sentiment is embossed on the Vellum card stock with Silver Embossing Powder. (Note: If you are embossing on vellum, I would suggest using the Vellum Card Stock as opposed to the Vellum Paper.) I tied around the 1 1/4" Pink Pirouette grosgrain ribbon and then added the hatpin and beads from the Pretties Kit. The card fits into one of Stampin Up's small open-end envelopes.
